Swordfish Tom’s – A quiet, quaint, HIDDEN (you’ll find the unmarked entrance down an alley), pre-prohibition cocktail bar with 30 persons max capacity. On busy nights, overflow guests may stand by in a small chamber outside the bar, waiting for the light over the thick iron door to switch from red – meaning the bar is at capacity – to green, signifying that seats have opened up. The menu emphasizes pre-Prohibition era cocktails, but there’s no end to the creativity of the bar staff. This is an intimate hideaway with a sophisticated, vintage-inspired setting. More info

The Quaff – The Quaff Bar & Grill is a favorite Kansas City neighborhood bar with a bar as long as awards list—46 feet. However, it’s not the awards that fuel The Quaff’s endurance, it’s the heart of its second-generation owner, Joe Bonino. Joe’s heart is huge. However, Joe and his staff aren’t ones to gush over anyone, especially athletes or musicians. The East Bottoms is an industrial area situated northeast of downtown, just south of the Missouri River and the sandwiched between runs of railroad tracks.
