In the next few years we’ll see a real focus on the connection between indoor and outdoor living. Additionally, home offices will continue to be important, as will an interesting concept called, “messy pantries and kitchens”. Read more to find out what’s happening…
OUTDOOR LIVING. When possible, homes are beginning to feature multiple outdoor spaces to accommodate varying weather and activities. Think covered and uncovered areas, and separate cozy spaces for fire pits. New homes and remodels are also given great views of these outdoor living spaces with thoughtfully placed and/or large quantities of windows, bringing the outside in.
HOME OFFICE. A home office is now a must. This can be accomplished by transforming nooks into office space in smaller homes. Even better is an office with flex space for more than one person to work. Whether it’s one or both parents working from home, kids needing a space for schoolwork, or an additional space for crafting, this is a necessity that we don’t see going away anytime soon.
“MESSY PANTRIES & KITCHENS”. In new homes and home remodels duel kitchens are being designed. If space allows a second “messy” kitchen or pantry with counters, storage, a sink, and potentially some major appliances is used for prep work and large countertop appliances. Meanwhile the main kitchen area is used for entertaining.
COLORS. We’re still seeing neutrals—primarily grays and whites, paired with pops of color. This is a great way to add fun trends, since pops of color can be brought in with accent pieces such as, pillows, curtains, rugs, etc. These inexpensive items can be changed out when you feel like a change. Adding in natural wood with warm, natural tones also continues to be widely popular.
AUTHENTIC STYLE. Modern looks paired with traditional elements lead the way right now. This melding of styles is less fussy than strictly traditional style and adds authenticity. This results in a more refined, yet simple ambience that just feels like home.
