MARCH & EARLY APRIL

 

Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championships – March. The road to the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship goes through Kansas City as Big 12 teams battle for conference supremacy. Between games, celebrate the history of hoops—and indulge your inner athlete—at the adjacent College Basketball Experience. More info

 

Snake Saturday Parade & Family Fun Festival – March. Usually a March event, this Northland tradition is a popular part of the St. Patrick’s Day season in Kansas City. Entertainment for all ages abounds throughout North Kansas City, starting with a parade and ending in a carnival. More info 

 

Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade – March. One of the country’s largest St. Patrick’s Day Parades features hundreds of floats proceeding through Midtown, ending in Westport, where the Celtic-themed revelry continues into the wee hours. More info 

 

Planet Comicon – March/April (date varies). Celebrate 20+ years of superheroes, pop culture and more at KC’s largest and longest-running comic book convention and pop culture expo, featuring the best in comic books, fantasy, science fiction television and movies. More info 

 

 

 

APRIL & EARLY MAY

 

Kansas City Spring Caffeine Crawl – April. Explore the local coffee and tea scene with unique routes highlighting participating shops and roasters in the metro. Each stop provides a short, educational presentation along with a drink sample. This Crawl adds new faces, beverage industry veterans, and some of your favorite local spots stretching from De Soto to Lake Lotawana. There are historical buildings, inhouse roasters, tea stops, and everything in between over this weekend celebration. More info 

 

Kansas City FilmFest – April. Grab your popcorn and enjoy more than 100 local, regional, national, and international films during this annual juried film festival. More info 

 

Art Garden KC – April, May. Art Garden KC is a non-profit, grassroots outdoor festival centered in the gorgeous and historical City Market Park! Support local businesses and artists in one of KC’s hottest tourist destinations! Every Sunday (weather permitting) from 11AM to 4PM, shop handcrafted local works from KC makers—unique, handmade jewelry, décor, ceramics, clothing, art and more. Over 90 local vendors, open mic, yard games & more. Family friendly atmosphere with art activities for all ages. Kiddos and dogs are welcome! More info 

 

Derby Day at Mission Farms – April/May (date varies). Tavern at Mission Farms brings classic Southern charm to Kansas City for its Kentucky Derby Day Party. The Derby Day Party Celebrates the Kentucky Derby Races, which includes Derby drink specials, Derby dishes, happy hour menu items, prizes, and fun. Attire includes hats, bow ties, bold colors, frilly frocks, dashing suits, suspenders, or preppy. Embrace the Southern tradition! More info 

 

Brookside Art Annual – April/May (date varies). Dominated by quaint neighborhoods, the Brookside neighborhood becomes the center of the Midwest art community each May. The Brookside Art Annual is known for its festive atmosphere, hospitality, and convenience, and has become a must-attend event for artists and art seekers alike. The show is located at 63rd and Brookside Boulevard (one block east of Wornall) between 63rd Street and Meyer Boulevard. The annual show includes children’s activities, including face painting, arts and crafts, balloon animals and more. More info 

 

Gatsby Days – April/May (date varies). Held in Excelsior Springs, this event explores the culture, glamour, and history of the Roaring ‘20s with street artists, live demonstrations, music, vintage cars, fashion and more. More info 

 

 

 

MAY

 

Lenexa Art Fair – May. The Lenexa Art Fair is the perfect outing to celebrate all things artisan. This one-day, outdoor, juried art fair features about 50 fine artists from the region; live jazz music throughout the day; children’s art activities; food trucks; Lenexa Farmers Market vendors; and tasting featuring local wine, craft beer and spirits. Harry’s Hay Days – May. The City of Grandview celebrates its Harry S. Truman legacy each year with Harry’s Hay Days, complete with a parade, food and drink vendors, arts and crafts, live music, and a beer garden. More info 

 

Hallmarket: A Hallmark Art Festival – May. This community-favorite event at Crown Center Square highlights the artistry of current Hallmark employees and retirees. The artists are on-site for the event, so you can chat with each creator about their work. This celebration of creativity and togetherness features live music performances, local food and drink vendors, and other fun activities. Free admission. More info 

 

Weston Winefest – May. Spring is here and what better way to celebrate than a festival of wine! Come and enjoy live music and taste wines from 9 different wineries from around the area. More info 

 

Turkey Creek Festival – May. This all-day event in Merriam, KS, includes everything from a pancake breakfast and a 5K to live music and a Kid Zone at the picturesque Antioch Park. More info 

 

Celebration at the Station – May, Memorial Day Weekend. Start your summer with the largest free Memorial Day weekend event in the Midwest. Against the majestic backdrop of Union Station, the Kansas City Symphony performs patriotic favorites with appearances from special guests, followed by fireworks to end the evening. More info
